The Corvette ZR1 has finally been revealed, and as expected it’s a numbers machine. We don’t know everything about the ZR1 yet, but here are the most important figures released so far.
755/715 – Chevy estimates the output of the ZR1 to be 755 hp and 715 lb-ft of torque. That’s 101 hp and 65 lb-ft more than the Corvette Z06 and 300 hp and 255 lb-ft more than a base naturally aspirated Corvette Stingray.
16 – That’s the number of valves the ZR1’s 6.2-liter V-8 has. Despite intel that suggested the LT5 would be a dual-overhead-cam V-8 with four valves per cylinder, the LT5 in the ZR1 uses the same tried-and-true pushrod overhead valve setup that Chevy small blocks have used for decades. We still think a Chevy DOHC V-8 is coming, but this isn’t it.
52 – According to Chevy, the ZR1’s Eaton supercharger displaces 52 percent more air than the Z06’s LT4 supercharger. That explains why the unit is 2.9 inches taller and requires a large power bulge in the hood. The central carbon-fiber “halo” hood piece also accommodates the supercharger’s intercooler.
950 – The ZR1’s optional fixed rear wing generates 950 pounds of downforce at the track, according to Chevy. It can be adjusted by about 5 degrees. Even the standard wing is said to create 70 percent more downforce than the Z06’s aero kit.
100,000+ – Pricing for the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has not yet been announced, but it’s a safe bet its starting price will exceed $100,000. The 2018 Corvette Z06 starts at $81,585 and the previous 2009 ZR1 started at $105,000. However, Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter promises the ZR1’s price won’t be double that of a Stingray, which starts at $56,590.
4 – Since 1970, only four Corvettes have been given the ZR1 designation. The first was the third-generation C3 Corvette, which offered a ZR1 package that included a hotter engine, a performance suspension, revised transmission, and upgraded brakes. The other three include the 1990 Corvette ZR-1, the 2009 Corvette ZR1, and this upcoming 2019 model.
210 – The Corvette ZR1 has a top speed of 210 mph, making it the fastest production Corvette ever, according to Chevy.
13 – Cooling has been an issue for the Z06, so Chevy added four new radiators to the ZR1 for a total of 13 heat exchangers. The front end was redesigned with new intake openings to feed air to these new cooling components.
3,560 – The ZR1 uses the most carbon fiber of any Chevy to date, which contributes to a curb weight of 3,560 pounds—about the same as a Z06.
