Kia Seltos Joins Subcompact SUV Class

Concept Cars

Kia took the covers off the Seltos small crossover in India today, and it doesn’t look like a baby Sportage. The new model features an unusual design, but all the tech you’d expect from Kia.

The Kia Seltos strongly resembles the SP concept it is based on. It dons split-level lights up front, with the grille separating the full LED headlights from the LED daytime running lights. The grille features the familiar tiger nose design we see on other products from Kia. In the rear, you’ll see lots of body cladding and chunky LED taillights. The Kia Seltos is available with 16-, 17-, or 18-inch crystal cut alloy wheels.

Inside the cabin, look for a 10.25-inch touchscreen with split screen functionality. It also offers live information about traffic, weather, and points of interest. Complementing this central screen is an available 8-inch head-up display projected onto the driver’s windshield.

An eight speaker Bose sound system is available for audiophiles. Sound Mood Lighting, also incorporated into the 2020 Soul, synchronizes the interior lights to the beat of the music. In terms of safety features, the Seltos features front and rear parking sensors, stability and traction control, and a body made with advanced high-strength steel components.

Three engines will be available on this global vehicle, including a 1.6-liter turbocharged gas engine making 175 hp, a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated gas engine with 147 hp, and a 1.6-liter diesel good for 134 hp. These numbers match those offered on the global Hyundai Kona small crossover. Depending on the market, the Seltos will offer a seven-speed dual clutch, six-speed automatic, and CVT transmission options. Normal, Eco, and Sport drive modes will be on tap.
