Earlier this month, GMC revealed its all-new full-size pickup truck, the Sierra. Styled to better differentiate itself from the new Chevrolet Silverado, the 2019 Sierra offers several unique features such as its trick six-position tailgate and an optional carbon-fiber composite bed. Today, GMC announced the Sierra will get a new off-road version called the AT4.

Not to be confused with the rocket launcher that shares its name, the AT4 gets more than a blacked-out grille and an appearance package. GMC outfitted the Sierra AT4 with a 2-inch lift, much like Chevy did with the 2019 Silverado Z71. It also gets a locking rear differential, skid plates, Rancho monotube shocks, red tow hooks, and 18-inch wheels wearing either all-terrain or mud-terrain tires. If you choose the optional 20-inch wheels you  can’t get mud tires, however.

Under the hood, the Sierra AT4 gets a 5.3-liter V-8 and an eight-speed automatic, but buyers have the option of adding either a 6.2-liter V-8 or the new 3.0-liter diesel inline-six, both of which are paired with a 10-speed automatic. Regardless of the engine choice, four-wheel drive comes standard, as does a two-speed transfer case.

“The 2019 Sierra AT4 is designed for the customer who wants an elevated presence on the road and the capability to venture off life’s beaten path,” said Duncan Aldred, global head of GMC, in a release. “It’s also the beginning for the AT4 brand, which will be seen on every vehicle in our lineup in the next two years.”

Look for the 2019 GMC Sierra AT4 to arrive in dealerships later this fall with pricing announced closer to its on-sale date.
