A rollercoaster ride and week for Tesla
To tweet, or not to tweet — that is the question. Tesla Model 3 serial number one (SN1) may or may not have rolled off the production line as planned this week.
Last weekend Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted, “Model 3 passed all regulatory requirements for production two weeks ahead of schedule. Expecting to complete SN1 on Friday.”
Musk also tweeted about the upcoming Model 3 handover party for 30 lucky owners on July 28. He also revealed production numbers for the rest of the year — “20,000 Model 3 cars per month” by December.
This week Tesla’s stock took a slide, the company announced it is building the world’s largest lithium ion battery in Australia by December or it’s free, and the Model S failed to get top scores on some safety tests .
The Wall Street Journal published “Tesla’s Skid Is Coming at the Worst Time” and Musk responded with “Stop biting my finger dammit” on Twitter and a “Charlie bit my finger — again” video from YouTube.
There was another battery news retweet and then silence — no OpenAI, Neuralink updates, or even another Boring news post.
No matter. We know there is a photo on Instagram lurking out there that will reveal Tesla Model 3 SN1 it all its glory.
The $35,000 Tesla Model 3 with a 215-mile range per charge could be a real game changer if it lives up to all the hype. Up to half a million cars are planned for 2018 and to reach that goal Tesla will need a whole lot of batteries — and buyers.
The company’s new Gigafactory is currently being built in Sparks, Nevada and is expected to open in 2020.
Over 370,000 buyers put down $1,000 deposits for a Model 3 and if you haven’t already placed an order your chances of receiving one before the middle of next year are slim.
